PRESENTATION

The Empirical Foundations of Linguistics EFL project is funded by IdEx Université Paris Cité (2025-2030). It brings together 11 research teams from four partner institutions (U. Paris Cité, U. Sorbonne Paris Nord, U. Sorbonne Nouvelle, and INALCO) in partnership with the CNRS and IRD.

The EFL project supports innovative research on languages and language, bringing together different fields of linguistics and related disciplines (psychology, neuroscience, computer science) around themes that respond to the major challenges of today’s world: language and speech acquisition and their decline due to neurodegenerative diseases or hearing disorders; multilingualism and its consequences on the evolution and diversity of languages and on the brain’s processing of language; the evolution of language in its social context; artificial intelligence and its applications in society.
